A brief introduction...

...brief because I already used up this week's quota commenting on Mike's post.

While I haven't quite narrowed down a specific focus for my work, I intend to write a thesis in the general area of interpretation, critical thinking, and research (or a kind of research of research, I suppose). The process by which we form systems of knowledge, beliefs, and values -- and, perhaps more importantly, the processes by which we continually modify those systems over time -- is fascinating to me. I'll be looking more specifically at how different technologies affect these processes and what the implications are for human cognition and for society. Yes, I realize this is huge, I'm working on it...

I'm looking forward to working with all of you.

  1. Yes, it sounds to be a very broad topic to me. When you mention "different technologies", are you going to set a timeline for it? We have four scienticfic / industrial revolutions in terms of technology.

  2. Hi Cordelia,

I'm not sure what you mean by timeline. Are you asking if I will be focusing on a specific historical period? If so, then yes, to some extend my work will be historically oriented, though at this point I'm more interested in certain specific technologies (which I didn't mention in my original post for the sake of brevity) that cross historical periods. My definition of technology is also a bit broader than just scientific/industrial technologies: I regard law as a technology for example, one that will probably be the focus of my work.
